Adding a Domain Name to a Digital Ocean Droplet

  1. Create a new nodeGame droplet. In this example, we created the droplet named "nodegame-5.9.0-with-nginx-for-mp" with the static as shown in the figures below.

  2. Buy a domain name with the registrar of your choice. In this example we bought "bigexp.net".

  3. Transfer the domain you bought to Digital Ocean.

  4. From the "Networking" menu, add the domain to the Digital Ocean control panel.

  5. Add the following DNS records: "A" and "CNAME". Optionally also add a "AAAA" record. See the pictures below:

The Digital Ocean interface to add a new A DNS record. The Digital Ocean interface to add a new CNAME DNS record.
  6. The end result should look like this:

The Digital Ocean interface containing all the DNS records.
  7. Wait for the changes to propagate through the DNS network. It may take from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the registrar.
