Quick Start

🎬 Prefer to watch? Two short video tutorials: the map's buttons, and planning a flight.

NavAid is a website: open the link and start planning — nothing has to be installed. Two optional installs exist, and both are covered in Offline and PWA:

  • Install as an app (PWA) — for offline use, on any platform.
  • The Android APK — the one to fly with. It is what keeps the GPS and the in-flight alerts running with the phone locked and the screen off; a plain browser tab is paused by the system when you put the phone down.

There is no iOS package — on an iPhone or iPad, use Add to Home Screen and keep the app in the foreground in flight. See iPhone and iPad.

  1. Open https://navaid.supino.org/.
  2. Open the ✏️ Edit menu and click Add waypoint.
  3. Click anywhere on the map. A numbered circle appears — that's a waypoint.
  4. Click again somewhere else. A second waypoint appears, automatically connected by a leg.
  5. Keep clicking to extend the route.
  6. Click Add Waypoint again to leave Add mode (or press Esc).

Need to add a point in the middle of an existing route? Leave Add mode and double-click the leg. NavAid inserts a new WP # waypoint at the clicked location and selects it so you can rename or drag it.

Your route is auto-saved in the browser. Reload the page and it's still there.

The map tour

On the first launch, after the safety notice, a short tour walks round the map's controls one at a time: everything else dims, a blue ring marks the control, a bubble says what it does and a blue arrow points at it. Next, Back and Skip, a step counter, Escape and the arrow keys (mirrored in Hebrew).

  • Steps: Route check, the edit buttons (the ring covers Add, Note, Undo and Clear only), Measure, the edit lock, the dial, your position, Record, Comm fail, the menu, then Find (computer) or press-and-hold (phone). A control not on screen is left out.
  • It plays once per device. Settings → Show the tour plays it again.
  • Gist switch featureTour (default on). Reduced motion stops the arrow's nudge.

First flight plan

  1. Build a route as above.
  2. Open the 📋 Charts menu and click Flight plan (or "תכנית טיסה" in Hebrew).
  3. Edit the Speed and Altitude cells. Heading, distance, and time recompute live.
  4. Click Print to send the plan to your printer / save it as PDF.

Flight Plan modal

First PNG export

  1. Open the 🖨 Print menu and click A4 (or A3). Pick Landscape or Portrait in the dialog.
  2. A dashed page-frame rectangle appears on the map. Drag it to position your route inside.
  3. Click ⬇ Save PNG. The chart + your route is rendered at the highest practical native zoom and saved as a PNG.

The PNG is print-ready at 1:250 000 on the chosen paper size.

What now?

  • Add notes (📝 Add Note) for anything the chart does not carry: a "climb 4500 ft" callout, the field's ATIS, or a VOR's ident and frequency to set up before you get there.
  • Toggle Show Navigation Waypoints to see the 170 active Israeli VFR reporting points.
  • Toggle Show Airfields to see 27 published Israeli airfields.
  • Use the search box to jump to a reporting point or airfield by name (Hebrew or English) or ICAO code.
  • Select a waypoint whose name matches an airfield ICAO (e.g. LLBG) to view its approach plates, SIDs, STARs, and airport charts in the inspector.
  • Read the Features page for everything else.
