Update July 2019: I never ended up doing this as I don’t feel comfortable mailing my son’s documents to the various credit bureaus. :(
How-to guide
… you need to contact the three credit reporting agencies directly and ask them to create a credit report. And then immediately put a freeze on it. Equifax, TransUnion and Experian will create a file at your request and may charge a fee for the freeze based on your state.
Equifax
Mail a letter to:
Equifax Information Services LLC - Minor Child
P.O. Box 105139
Atlanta, GA 30348-5139
The letter must contain enlarged copies of the following documents (assuming you’re the parent):
- A copy of the child’s birth certificate
- A copy of the child’s Social Security card
- A copy of your driver’s license with current address
TransUnion
Mail a letter to:
- A written request to place a “protected consumer freeze” on the named individual’s file
Experian
Mail a letter to:
Experian

The letter must contain enlarged copies of the following documents (assuming you’re the parent):
- Child’s date of birth
- Previous addresses for the past two years
- Child’s full name, including middle initial
- A copy of your child’s Social Security card
- A copy of your child’s birth certificate
- A copy of your driver’s license with current address
- Proof of your address, such as a copy of a bank statement, utility bill, insurance statement, etc.
Include this form:

Social Security number
Date of birth
Home telephone number Extension Business/alternate phone Extension
Report number
Please select one of the following options:
[ ] Order your child's personal credit report
[ ] Add a temporary fraud alert to your child's credit file
[ ] Add an extended fraud victim’s alert to your child's credit file
[ ] Place a security freeze on your child's credit file
[ ] Temporarily remove a security freeze from your child's credit file
[ ] Permanently remove a security freeze from your child's credit file
[ ] Check here if you are blind or visually impaired within the meaning of the Americans with Disabilities Act and can provide proof upon request, indicating that you are eligible to receive your credit report or score report in an alternate format such as Braille, Large Print or Audio CD.
