Go see gators (and bison, wild horses, birds, snakes...) up close and personal at LaChua Trail, especially in winter. In hot weather, the gators are underwater, but this is still a great place for bird watching all year round. Birds I've adding to my "life list" at LaChua: black-bellied whistling ducks and limpkins. Last winter, a pair of Great Horned owls had two fledglings (baby owls) hanging out for weeks at the beginning of the trail (near cattle barn).

Ok, this site is technically for "kids" activities, but it always lists all the local festivals. Florida has fairs and festivals in the winter, when the weather has cooled off.
