Flip Flop

A flip flop is a type of digital circuit that can store one bit of information, which is either a 0 or a 1. It is a fundamental building block of sequential logic circuits and is commonly used in electronic devices such as computers, calculators, and digital clocks.

Why Flip Flops if we have Latches?

Feature Flip Flop Latch
Triggering Edge-triggered Level-triggered
Stability More stable, output changes only on clock edge Less stable, output changes as soon as inputs change
Storage Can store one bit of information Can store one bit of information
Applications Used in Counters, shift registers and memory elements Control and storage of small amounts of digital information in simple logic circuits
