The Monastic Scholar - mauriceling/mauriceling.github.io GitHub Wiki

I no longer rise at the clang of the bell
Nor chase the ranks where the metrics dwell
The world still hums with its urgent pace
But I have chosen a gentler place
No gown no grant no deadline race
Yet wisdom still calls with a quiet grace
My pen still moves though slower now
Not for applause but to keep a vow
A vow to remember to sift to save
To honour the silence the elders gave
To shape my days like temple lines
With empty space and patient signs
I tend my archive leaf by leaf
A private rite and a public brief
Each entry marked with care and date
A record kept against the weight
No orders bind no abbey wall
Yet I have heard a different call
To teach one child to write one truth
To walk through age with eyes of youth
Not fully gone not fully here
Not ruled by time nor bound by fear
I live between the now and then
A monk of mind with a writer’s pen
