[On the milestone of supervised 100 honours students (2018–2025)]

A hundred seeds each with its own name
Planted not in soil but in hope and flame
From 2018’s uncertain start
To today’s quiet and weighted heart

Each mind a field I dared to till
With care with rigour with quiet will
Some bloomed bright and some broke mid-bend
Some stories cut short I could not mend

Yet many stand on roots deep and wide
Now walking on the farther side
Degrees in hand their futures begun
Some now mentor others under the sun

A hundred journeys crossed my track
None quite the same and none turning back
From dropout tears to journal lines
To chapters bound in research spines

Forty-eight works bear their trace
Proofs of thought of time of grace
Not mine alone but shared and grown
In the unseen hours they made their own

What is a teacher if not a flame
Lit not for self but to give name
To questions to paths and to quiet might
To help another find their light

And so I stand not tall but still
Grateful heart and tempered will
One hundred steps beneath my care
One hundred stars I placed out there

Commentary: Today, I marked the honours dissertation for my 100th honours student (from 2018 to 2025) and all from MDIS (Management Development Institute of Singapore). This means that I have effectively and successfully supervised 100 honours students. Despite the misgivings, I am grateful for this opportunity and privilege. I have had honours students who dropped out due to medical issues, honours students who passed away; but many other are gainfully employed or pursuing advanced degrees. A total of 48 peer-reviewed articles / book chapters published from these 100 dissertations.
