Another Chapter, Closed - mauriceling/mauriceling.github.io GitHub Wiki
I mistook an ending once before
When I closed a door and swept the floor
Believed the room had nothing left
No more to give and no more to test
That night I thought the book was done
The final page in the setting sun
Yet loose-leaf days came drifting through
With notes to write and truths to chew
Today is not that kind of close
No ragged edge nor forced repose
The silence here is calm and wide
An earned goodbye and not one denied
I stood again where I have stood
Spoke what I knew in the best I could
No line was rushed no thought deferred
No quiet truth left undisturbed
This is not loss nor quiet defeat
But work whole and completed
To linger now would add no grace
Just echoes filling empty space
If more should come then let it arrive
In smaller forms and more deeply alive
If nothing does I will not plea
The hush itself has work for me
Some chapters fail and tear apart
Some end when they have done their part
This one rests with its purpose clear
No bitterness nor trace of fear
I close the book with steady hand
Not from escape but understanding
I do not need to read once more
What taught me well then let me go

Commentary: On 17 May 2022, I wrote a poem titled “Maybe A Chapter Closed”. That night, I taught my last contracted lecture in MDIS and thought maybe there is nothing left for me. But subsequently, more lecturing contracts came in. Fast forward to today, I just finished my last contracted lecture in MDIS (again) and have no intention to take on anymore lecturing contracts in MDIS. I rejected subsequent teaching contracts but maybe I will take project supervisions. Hence, this is a chapter closed.
