The toolbar buttons are described below. If a button does not say "rM Hacks" then it is a native reMarkarble feature. However, some of these native features may be augmented by rM Hacks additions.

This button toggles the toolbar on and off. Technically, it toggles the toolbar off. When the toolbar is off, there's a slightly different icon to toggle the toolbar back on.

In the rM Hacks settings, this might be called the "toolbar button", "toolbar header", or "toolbar toggle icon".

While this button is a native reMarkable feature, rM Hacks provides some options that affect how it displays:

In Document Configuration:

• Hide the toolbar button
• Show current brush icon

These settings affect how the toolbar toggle appears when the toolbar is hidden.

In Toolbar Configuration:

• Hide toolbar header

This setting removes the toolbar toggle button when the toolbar is visible. Everything else in the toolbar shifts upwards.

In QuickTools Configuration

• QuickTools as header

This setting will place the QuickTools bar where the toolbar toggle button appears, hiding it if it's visible and shifting the toolbar downwards if the toggle button is hidden.

Clearly a lot is going on in this one upper corner. There is more discussion about the toolbar and the QuickTools bar in QuickTools.

This symbol indicates which writing tool has been selected from the menu. It is also a button that opens/closes the select menu.

This is a native reMarkable feature, but rM Hacks adds more stroke sizes to the select menu for all the writing tools except Highlighter.

This symbol indicates which tool is selected, Eraser or Selection eraser. It is also a button that opens/closes the select menu.

This is a native reMarkable feature, but rM Hacks adds more stroke sizes to the Eraser menu.

This is a native reMarkable feature, and rM Hacks does not have any settings that affect it.

This button toggles the rM Hacks QuickTools bar on and off. This can also be done using a gesture: one finger swipe upwards in the body of the page.

This symbol indicates whether there is anything to undo. It is also a button that will undo the last action. This is a native reMarkable feature, and rM Hacks does not have any settings that affect it.

This symbol indicates whether there is anything to redo. It is also a button that will redo the last undo action. This is a native reMarkable feature, and rM Hacks does not have any settings that affect it.

This is an indicator showing which page you are on and how many pages are in the document. It is also a button that opens the native reMarkable fast page scroll. The native gesture that also opens the fast page scroll is one finger swipe up from the bottom of the page.

This symbol indicates that the document has a table of contents. It is also a button that opens the table of contents. The native reMarkable table of contents button appears when you tap the page overview button.

This is a native reMarkable feature, and rM Hacks does not have any settings that affect it.

This symbol indicates whether there is a tag assigned to this page. It is also a button that opens/closes the tag menu. This is a native reMarkable feature, but rM Hacks adds the ability to long-press the button to jump straight to the Tags browse page. This page is otherwise available by exiting the document and tapping Menu ⇒ Tags.

This symbol indicates whether this page has a bookmark. It is also a button that opens/closes the bookmark navigation grid. In addition, a long-press on this button will set or unset a bookmark for the page.

This is a native reMarkable feature, and rM Hacks does not have any settings that affect it.

This is a native reMarkable feature, but you can choose to have rM Hacks add more options to the menu. These options have toggles for both native reMarkable features (e.g., WiFi Connection), and rM Hacks features (e.g., Clock).

This is a native reMarkable feature, and rM Hacks does not have any settings that affect it.

A feature of rM Hacks that affects the toolbar as a whole is the option to Decrease toolbar width.

This feature decreases the width to 75% of its original size. But not only the width. Each toolbar button is also decreased to 75% of its original height.

This is significant, because in landscape mode all of the above buttons will not fit in the allotted space unless you decrease the toolbar width. So if landscape mode is important, you may have to decide either to decrease the width or to not show some of the new buttons, e.g., QuickTools toggle, Page numbers, Table of contents, or Bookmarks.

But luckily, the toolbar buttons are perfectly usable at the decreased width.
