Shelters are structures that generate as part of the Working Dogs mod.

Shelters occasionally appear in plains and savanna biomes. They do not generate as part of a village, and appear as standalone buildings.

The shelter is a large building made of sandstone, terracotta and clay. It has an andesite roof with white quartz accents, and uses wood and trapdoors for furniture and decorations. Shelters generate with lots of planters, potted plants and vines made of dark oak leaves on the outside. The shelter building is large, bright and modern, and is unmistakable for any other structure.

The front of the shelter has two laying dog statues in the front, as well as picture windows into the dog kennels. Entering the shelter building brings the player to the adoption area, and they can then access the kennels through the door to the right. Around the back of the building, there is a small area with a dumpster and compost bins, as well as a quiet garden with memorial markers and flowers.

Dog beds, fancy beds, dog bowls and kennel equipment generate naturally as part of every shelter structure.

Shelters always generate with a kennel hand villager. In the front kennel area, one dog can generate in each individual kennel. Up to three dogs can spawn. Against the back wall, two cat cages spawn, and contain 1-2 cats each. Larger shelter variants have a small animal room off to the left side which contains 3-4 parrots and 1-2 rabbits.

If the Simply Cats mod is installed, the cats that spawn in the shelter will be from the mod instead of vanilla. The player can tame any of the animals in a shelter with food, and other than that, they are free to adopt.

While shelters can generate any dog breed, all dogs that spawn naturally in a shelter will be neutered.
