Breeds - kmfisk/workdog GitHub Wiki
The working dogs mod adds distinct dog breeds.
Working Dogs' goal as a mod is to make players think carefully about not just what dog they want, but what dog they can responsibly obtain and handle.
Unlike domesticated cats, which were differentiated into distinct breeds as a novelty, dog breeds have each been selectively bred for physical and behavioral traits to make them better at helping humans work. Each breed is predisposed to look, act and live a certain way, and be better for certain types of owners over others. It's not fair to say all people should own one breed (or own a mixed breed instead), because activity levels, housing situations and budgets are all different.
While breeds in the same [working group]] may seem fundamentally similar, they often have differences that make them better suited to different situations. [Coat length, attack damage, heat tolerance and aggression may sway a player to one dog over another.
Dog-loving players should consider the biome they're building in, the biomes around them, and their working needs before seeking out a specific breed.
Basic information
Each dog breed has its own unique model, [GUI]] portraits, and set of [[coat colors and patterns]]. Each breed has static, per-breed [attributes such as size, heat tolerance and potential aggressions. Working group is also defined per breed, and gives each breed a set of helpful behaviors to assist the player.
Cross breeding is possible, but can only result in more purebred dogs. There are no "averaged" mixed breed or mutt dogs that combine both traits of the parents.
Each breed in Working Dogs is obtained in a different way, but all breeds have a chance to generate in the shelter, or be traded by the kennel hand.
