Release Notes

One entry per KiroTux ISO release, newest first. Each heading names its edition.

Niri DMS v26.10.11 — October 11, 2026

Why a new ISO: the first KiroTux Niri DMS release. Built on Kiro (the same packages, repositories and rolling Arch Linux base), put together and tested as one ISO for the niri scrolling compositor.

  • niri + DankMaterialShell (DMS): windows sit side by side on an endless strip you scroll through, with DMS as the desktop shell: bar, app launcher, control center, notification center, clipboard history and lock screen.
  • A live session that boots straight into the desktop: try it on your hardware before you install anything.
  • A Wayland installer: Calamares, with ext4 (default), btrfs or xfs. The keyboard layout you pick is the one you get after the install.
  • Wayland only, with X11 apps running through xwayland-satellite.
  • Its own login screen, file-manager setup and KiroTux News, which tells you when a new premium app or ISO is ready.
  • The premium settings app (Ctrl + Alt + H). See Premium Settings App.
  • Packages: kiro-niri-dms 26.10-10 (the desktop config, also free on Kiro), kirotux-niri-premium 26.10-9 (the settings app), kirotux-sddm-simplicity, kirotux-thunar, kirotux-news.
  • Versions: niri 26.04, DankMaterialShell 1.6.3, kernels linux 7.2.9 and linux-lts 6.18.55.
  • Tested on: QEMU, an NVIDIA desktop (RTX 2060), an Intel desktop and a hybrid Intel + AMD laptop.

Hyprland DMS v26.10.08 — October 8, 2026

Why a new ISO: dark theming everywhere, and the premium settings app now ships with its licence.

  • Qt apps follow the dark theme: they use the KvGnomeDark Kvantum theme, for your user and for root.
  • Apps run as root are dark too: GParted and Thunar (as root) no longer open in light Adwaita.
  • Galculator's display is dark.
  • The premium settings app ships its end-user licence (EULA v1.0: personal and household use, no sharing of the app or the ISO), installed at /usr/share/licenses/kirotux-hyprland-premium/LICENSE.
  • Packages: kiro-wayland-dotfiles 26.10-03, kiro-hyprland-dms 26.10-13, kiro-calamares-config-wayland 26.10-11, kirotux-hyprland-premium 26.10-12.

Hyprland DMS v26.10.07 — October 7, 2026

Why a new ISO: the first KiroTux release. KiroTux is built on Kiro: the same packages, repositories and rolling Arch Linux base, put together and tested as one ISO for one Wayland desktop.

  • Hyprland + DankMaterialShell (DMS): the Hyprland tiling compositor with DMS as the desktop shell: bar, app launcher, control center, notification center, clipboard history and lock screen.
  • A live session that boots straight into the desktop: try it on your hardware before you install anything.
  • A Wayland installer: Calamares (Qt6), set up for Wayland, with ext4 as the default file system.
  • Wayland only: no X11 desktops on the image, configured for Wayland from the first boot.
  • Its own login screen and file-manager setup.
  • The premium settings app (Ctrl + Alt + H) for this desktop. See Premium Settings App.
  • Packages: kiro-hyprland-dms (the desktop config, also free on Kiro), kirotux-hyprland-premium (the settings app), kirotux-sddm-simplicity-hyprland (the login screen), kirotux-thunar.
  • Versions: Hyprland 0.56.2, DankMaterialShell 1.6.2, kernels linux 7.2.9 and linux-lts 6.18.55.
