Troubleshooting Guide - jackeys/Power-Armor-to-the-People GitHub Wiki

This guide collects issues that have been found with installing or using Power Armor to the People and the known solutions to address them. If you are running into a problem listed here, hopefully one of the solutions will work for you.

Crashing to Desktop (CTD)

There are a few times that the game can crash, which have different implications for what the problem could be:

  • When the game is first loading, before you get to the main menu
  • When loading a saved game / during gameplay

Crashing before getting to the main menu

If the game crashes before you get to the main menu, this typically means that there is a problem with the plugins that are being loaded. With respect to Power Armor to the People, these are the issues that could cause the problem and how to address them.

Unsorted plugins

Patches should be lower in your load order than their masters. While many plugins seem to have some resilience to this, at least Power Armor to the People - Nuka-World.esp must come after Power Armor to the People.esp or the game will crash when it loads.

If your mod manager supports automatically sorting your plugins, using LOOT for example, that should make sure this happens. Vortex seems to do this automatically, but other mod managers like Mod Organizer 2 may require some attention.

Missing a plugin

The installer auto-detects what mods you have, so if you didn't manually select anything in the installer, this should not be the issue. However, it's a good idea to make sure of the following things if none of the other solutions have worked:

  • Make sure your mod manager doesn't have any warnings indicating that you are missing masters
  • If both an ESP and ESL version of a plugin is supported, make sure you selected the right one in the installer

Crashing when loading a saved game / playing the game

If the game crashes right when loading a game, or consistently with a certain area or item, then there is likely a problem with the content of some of the mods. These issues usually mean you are using an incompatible version of a mod, which can be checked on the Support Mods page. In general, if you are using a replacer for a mod that is not listed as supported, it may be the cause of your crash.

Note that there are many potential issues that can cause crashes in both mods and the base game. If you are using all known compatible versions from the Supported Mods page, chances are that the issue is not with Power Armor to the People. There are other mods that can help with the stability of your game, such as Buffout 4 and Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch.

Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) Settings Won't Save

You need to enable loose files in Fallout4Custom.ini for the MCM settings to save. You can see instructions on how to do that on the NexusMods wiki page for installing Fallout 4 mods.

Reporting Issues

If you are still experiencing an issue that could not be solved using the steps on this page, feel free to open a bug. The following information can be very helpful in aiding the investigation:

  • A description of what the problem is and when you see it
  • What mods related to power armor / Power Armor to the People you are using, and whether you are using all of the patches provided by Power Armor to the People for those mods
  • A Buffout 4 crash log, if the issue is a crash
