Melee Weapons
Simple Melee Weapons
These are mostly unchanged from NetHack and new ones don't have many special properties, except for 1d20 silver damage.

- Trident — This is a spear, see note 1 below
- Fork — This is a spear, see note 1 below, 1d20 silver damage

- Main-gauche — Left-hand dagger, see note 2 below
- Athame — Dagger, can be used for engraving without dulling, can be thrown
- Scalpel — Dagger, healer starting weapon

- Worm tooth — Dagger, can be enchanted to crysknife, see note 2 below
- Crysknife — Dagger, can be enchanted from worm tooth, does not revert back to worm tooth in GnollHack, see note 2 below

Notes on Simple Melee Weapons
- Spears can be applied to hit targets at 2 or more squares away (depending on the skill level, requires Basic or better skill). The range is 2, SQRT(5), SQRT(8) on Basic/Skilled/Expert. They also work as a melee weapon.
- Daggers stack and can also be thrown.
- Axes can be applied to chop down trees.

Polearms
Polearms can be applied to hit targets SQRT(8) squares away on all skill levels. They cannot be used as a melee weapon.

Ranged Weapons
In GnollHack, launchers, such as a bow or a crossbow, add their damage and damage bonus to the fired ammunition.
- Bows and slings add the user's strength bonus to the damage.
- Crossbows have a fixed bonus, which is added to the damage instead of the strength bonus.
Bows
The following bows fire 1 shot per turn:
- Bow
- Short bow
- Elven long bow
- Orcish short bow
- Composite long bow
- Yumi — Oriental long bow
Normal bows can be safely enchanted at +7 or below. Elven bows can be safely enchanted at +10 or below.
The only bow that fires shots faster than 1 shot per turn is:
Crossbows
The following crossbows fire 1 shot per turn:

Slings
- Sling — Fires 1 shot per turn.
- Staff-sling — Fires up to 2 shots per turn.

- Exceptional — Double base damage
- Elite — Triple base damage
- Celestial/Primordial/Infernal — Quadruple base damage but can only be used by lawful/neutral/chaotic beings
