The Journal of Alchemy is a Patchouli guide book, and the in-game documentation of the mod. It is arranged into four sections, each of which serves a unique purpose. The Journal is made by combining a Book, a Stick, and a Bottle (a reference to the Witch loot table).

Guide

The Guide is the introductory and tutorial section. It introduces the lore of the mod, the concepts of [Powers]] and [[Reactions]], the steps to make and use the [[Crucible]], and a few hints that will be important later. Also includes some guidance on creating the [[Volt Cell]] and discovering [Synthesis.

Objects of Study

This is essentially the quest board of the mod. Each entry presents a scenario and asks the player to complete some investigation one of the narrator characters started. Many entries unlock due to advancement progress.

Reactions

This section keeps track of the reactions the player has discovered and reminds them of the often world-specific requirements to perform those reactions.

Results

This section is your typical mod guide book section, describing everything factually. Many of the big draws like [Displacement]], [[Staves of Power]], and [Teleportation have entries here. Most entries are locked until their 'quest line' in Objects of Study or Guide is complete.

Items

Version 9+ only

Once there were enough Results, they would have bled across onto a new page, which looked unsightly since it opens up a whole two pages of nearly empty space, so there is now an Items subsection to the Results section. This section documents specific tools or materials, while the Results section is for concepts and mechanics.
