Estimation methods - electricitymaps/electricitymaps-contrib GitHub Wiki
This document outlines the estimation methodologies that Electricity Maps uses to create the most accurate and useful data possible.
Estimation models
- Time Slicer Average is used for filling holes where data is missing from the provider.
- Real-Time Estimations is a hierarchal estimation model that uses external forecasts then internal forecasts, and lastly falls back to Time Slicer Average if both the external and internal forecasts are unavailable. Limited to solar and wind forecasts for now.
- General-Purpose-Zone-Development is used to estimate the hourly production breakdown for zones where we only have yearly production breakdown and weather data.
- Zone specific models:
- IE & GB-NIR: Ireland and Northern Ireland
- IN: India
- JP: Japan
Estimated zones
For now, only specific zones are estimated, but we are constantly working on expanding the list 🌍
