Reset your password - dvnkln/hdtracker GitHub Wiki

Forgot your password – or your username? Run this on the server hdtracker is running on:

docker exec hdtracker node reset-password.js

It sets a new temporary password, logs out all devices and shows you what to log in with:

Password reset – all devices of this account were logged out.

  Username: yourname
  Temporary password: FhFWyIVsrat1zKh8

Log in and choose your own password under Settings → Account.

The app does not need a restart. After logging in with it, hdtracker asks you to choose a password of your own (up to version 0.7.0: change it under Settings → Account).

With several accounts

From version 0.8.0 an installation can have several accounts.

  • Somebody else forgot their password: an admin resets it in the app – Settings → Users, open the account, Reset password. No access to the server needed.

  • An admin forgot theirs and there is no other admin: use the command, with the username at the end:

docker exec hdtracker node reset-password.js yourname

  • Forgot the username too? Run the command without a name. With several accounts it changes nothing and lists the usernames.

Good to know

  • hdtracker in the command is the container name (container_name in your docker-compose.yml).
  • The command needs access to the server, so nobody can reset your password from the web.
  • No shell on the server, only a web interface like Portainer? Open the container's console there and run node reset-password.js.
  • The command also works for a locked account, but does not unlock it – that is done under Settings → Users.
  • Available from version 0.3.0.
