Seattle or bust

Oops. I made a fairly big mistake.

All through getting ready for this move, I've given myself plenty of time and acknowledged my age and general flabbiness by working at a leisurely pace.

Until yesterday. For some stupid reason, yesterday was my day for loading the car and final-tidying the apartment, two of the biggest chores. Should've allowed two days to do it, but instead I locked myself into finishing yesterday, because my hotel reservation is tonight, eight hours away, in South Dakota, and it's prepaid.

Too much work. Too much sweat. Not enough breaks. No enough cinnamon rolls. I may have wrenched my back — twice — and then when a neighbor was chasing down his rambunctious dog I dumbly helped out, by cooing the critter toward me, pss pss pss, and grabbing his collar. "Got him!" I shouted, but it was a great big bulldog and he didn't want to be got, so he yanked himself away and pulled my arm half out of its socket. I am on lots of drugs now, legal and illegal and Doan's.

Also I mis-measured the back seat, by forgetting that the doors on each side have thick built-in arm rests,. Instead of tightly fitting four milk-crates, two tall across the back seat, there's only room for three milk-crates, two tall. So two milk-crates got left behind — the kitchen, basically.

Some stuff got bagged up and stuffed into the car's crevices, but — adios crockpot, farewell frying pans, toodle-doo spatulas and coffee mugs. Sigh.

And the cat. Jeez, I hope she survives this. She's locked in her carrying case, and very unhappy about it, and I have nine fresh scars on my arms and a tenth on my nose from the battle.

Didn't sleep well, back hurts, and I'm leaking blood, but — Seattle or bust. If the car is good to me, we'll be there by Thursday or Friday. Whether there'll be updates along the way depends on how tuckered I am at the end of each day, how madly the cat slices me, and the quality of the hotel's wi-fi.

Biden explicitly calls for Putin to be ousted from presidency in Russia: “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power”

Seems like a perfectly reasonable assessment, so of course after Biden said it, the White House immediate backpedaled.

Legal scholars are shocked by Ginni Thomas's "Stop the Steal" texts

Then those legal scholars are hopelessly naïve. Ginni Thomas has been a known wingnut for as long as her name as been known.

Microsoft is tied to hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign bribes, whistleblower alleges

It's nice to have a whistleblower and see a price tag attached, but again — like Ginni Thomas — you'd have to be naïve as a newborn to not know already that big money bribes are behind not just Microsoft, but every large company — domestic, foreign, and international. There are no exceptions, because it's not possible to be a giant conglomerate without giant corruption.

Why Republicans want to erase Brittney Griner and Lea Thomas

As for the GOP, the commonality between Griner and Thomas is that Republicans reject them both out of hand, ignoring the plight of one and howling to the moon about the other. The Democrats have largely chosen silence, which exacts its own cost, making people feel self-conscious, shamed, or scared about holding their names up in solidarity. But it’s the GOP that has decided to tear Thomas’s identity apart while whistling past Griner’s peril.

New York City’s labor unions railed against a new carve out officially announced Thursday that lets athletes on local teams play unvaccinated — even as hundreds of city employees still can’t get back to work without the shot.
