Instructions - denten-courses/metaphor-media GitHub Wiki
-
Sign up for a GitHub account if you don't already have one. You are welcome to contribute under an ID instead of your real name. Send me your ID in that case.
-
Navigate to the course Wiki.
-
You should be at the Home page. Sign in and click the edit button on the homepage. Add your name (github id) next to the keyterm/dictionary entry that you have signed up for. If you did not yet sign up for a keyterm, pick one of the major ones such as Metaphor or Metonymy. You can also wait and see which ones have not yet been covered.
-
When doing major changes write a small message explaining your edits and click Save Page.
-
Navigate to your keyterm page.
-
For each keyterm create a dictionary entry consisting of three sections. Like so:
## Quotes
## Examples
## Synthesis
-
For this midterm assignment begin by collating the relevant definitional quotes related to your keyterm from the readings we have already covered. Under examples excerpt the relevant examples, also form our readings.
-
For each quote cite the text using the Chicago Manual of Style.
-
Continue to update your page as the semester progresses.
-
For your final project I will also ask you to write a synthesis summary which attempts to unify the quotes and the examples into a coherent whole.
-
You are welcome to contribute to other people's pages as well or to work collaboratively on a dictionary entry. The GitHub system will keep track of who has done what work. Think of yourself as the editor/moderator ultimately responsible for the quality of your contribution.
-
Email me or ask on Piazza if you have any questions.
-
We will use these Wiki pages to create the Dictionary of Metaphor website with appropriate attributions to the class.
-
The history of your edits will look like this.
-
A draft of your section is due by March 11.
