12key
Overview
- Among the keys found in Dancing★Onigiri, the 12-key layout is particularly challenging.
You use the keyboard vertically, dividing the arrow keys between your left and right hands. - You must press the keys in the top row (U I 8 O), middle row (J K L), and bottom row (N M < >) as the arrows approach, and the correct way to press them varies depending on the situation.
- A key feature of this layout is to establish a basic pattern in your mind and then adapt it as needed.
Due to the complexity of the key types, you’ll also find charts that focus solely on the bottom row or specific parts of the layout. - In the danoni table for unorthodox keymodes, charts that consist only of the lower staff are denoted as 8(12) keys for convenience.

Related Keymodes (Next Steps)
| Related keymodes | Description |
|---|---|
| 14key | A keymode with two additional keys on the top left and right of the 12key layout. It allows for even more flexible fingering than the 12key layout. |
| 17key | A keymode that makes use of the lower row skills and double play from the 12key. It also serves as a good stepping stone to the 23key. |
| 23key | Double play using the 12key. It is even better if you have playing skills for both the 12key and 17key. |
