What is an Intellectual Property (IP) cores?
An IP core is a custom user-defined hardware design block that is intended to be add to Platform Designer system.
Intelectual components (IP) are custom user-defined blocks that allow for fast and easy interconnection of a .qsys design.
Types of IP cores
The following are posible types of IP components that exist in Quartus.
- Basic functions
- Interface protocols
- Bridges and adapters
- Low power functions
- DSP functions
- Memory interfaces and controllers
- Intel FPGA interconnect
- Processors and peripherals
IP Catalog
The IP catalog IP is the tab where an IP core can be search, add, edit or delete. Quartus includes a great variety of IP cores that can be used for the system. This are organized in categories, and new categories can be created for new IP cores.
