Broken Shield - chrisman/skookums-and-dragons GitHub Wiki
The gang decides to not go back to Nubs Hub on account of how it is still full of dead bodies, and so they head over to Gronk's Hovel to sleep it off.
It is revealed that Gronk is an avid gardener with a passion for tomatoes.
Dash discovers that Gronk's vegetable garden is booby trapped. He gathers the caltrops and tells Gronk about it but Gronk doesn't seem to care, so they never speak of it again.
They go to sleep. They wake up.
They talk about Elgren's journal and the codes within (snippets of Druidic and Thieves Cant), and come up with the following plan:
-
Ask the blind street preacher (aka Third Eye Blind, good one, Ryan) about the mark
-
Go back to the Huntsman to fetch Plonk
-
Go to the Broken Shovel in Westside to rough some people up and get some answers
Dash hid himself at the edges of the crowd in order to avoid the street preacher because of their mutual hatred.
Sully showed TEB a crayon rubbing of the Death Mark of the Exiled Dwarf to see if he recognized who the individual was.
TEB instantly freaks out and--after a little bribery--tells a story about a dwarf, a member of the Order, who was ordered to destroy a village and a bunch of magical children who lived there, but betrayed the Order by not destroying the village, and also smuggling the children away to safety. When the dwarf returned home, the Iron Society branded him and exiled him for his betrayal. And now the Order is closing in on him and the children, and will "rain vengeance" down on them.
He warns them anybody foolish enough to try redeeming the mark would be in grave danger.
Raahnubs spends the entire time interrupting and asking him personal questions about how he poops.
They go to collect Plonk for the journey to Westside but Plonk is like, "No, I don't work for you. And I don't work for Kiriel." But Valra is eventually like, "omg, just go, I can't stand the sound of you all arguing."
Sully asks a few people if they know where Elgren is ("We sure don't!") including--
- a couple mercenaries from his company, and
- some ruffians who look like they belong to the crew who ambushed the gang at Nubs Hub and who were consequently extremely murdered, and whose bodies are presumably still there in a tidy pile.
Dash--after eavesdropping on them and overhearing snippets of conversation including "lost" and "stolen"--tried to offer their procurement services to the ruffians. But then got flummoxed and panicky when he realized he was inviting them all back to the shop, which was stock full of their dead friends' bodies. So Dash ran away.
The gang, with Plonk, heads over to the Westside via a smugglers' tunnel in the basement of an old man.
Dash bribes a drunk to lead them to the Broken Shield.
Here's what happens inside:
-
They meet Loriel, a pretty elf in a blue dress and apparent crime boss of the area. She accuses Sully of being a racist. Dash pipes up that he too hates racists.
-
Raahnubs discovers the concept of
- dresses,
- upside down buckets, and
- Single leg pants
-
Dash cruelly toys with a gambling addict on a bad luck streak.
-
They meet Darien, possibly a member of the Shadows, a secretive group of shadowrunners from the eastside of Wayside, and with whom they argue long and hard about possibly working together to recover the stolen money. He also seems to recognize Raahnubs.
-
Gronk desperately wants to break somebody's legs
