Still reeling from their encounter with the double umberhulks the gang continues their journey down the tunnel. Starting to wonder if they'll ever get out, they begin to hear that ominous, echoing rumble of tunneling umberhulks again.
They reach a fork in the tunnel where the river disappears under a wall. They consider splitting the party to explore both routes, but considering the ongoing rumbling, they decide it better to stick together. Tumutch asks his rocks which tunnel to take... so, completely lost, they follow his lead and continue on.
The tunnel they picked begins to go uphill which is a great sign. Maybe they'll get out after all? On their way up, Fisty is casually reading in his weird book. Dug begins to turn to say something snarky to him only to witness a dark hand emerge from the pages, grab Fisty by the face, and pull him into the book.
The book falls to the ground and Ducky quickly snatches it up with an amazed look on his face. Fisty is gone... again. His weird book is to blame... again.
They continue up the path, still hoping to find an escape. Dug notices a weird rock that seems to move as if breathing. Looking to Tumutch he says, "Hey, you like weird rocks... does anything look weird about that one to you?"
Tumutch agrees. It's definitely a weird rock. He proceeds to pull out one of his magic pebbles and tosses it at the odd, moving thing.
It jumps out, shedding it's camouflage, transforming into some kind of giant snake with a face covered in tentacles. Then, as the team freaks out a little, the rumbling swells. An umberhulk bursts through the floor, grabs Ducky and drops back down, leaving a pit in the floor.
Dug looks to the crazy tentacle snake, looks to the pit, looks back to the tentacle snake, then jumps down the hole after Ducky. Further down we go.
After tumbling down the tunnel a ways, Dug slams down on the solid ground below. He's in another tunnel but there's no sign of the umberhulk. Tumutch soon crashes down on the ground beside him. Pankas lands lightly. The three of them begin to worry if they're ever going to make it out.
They look for signs of Ducky for a while. There's none. They agree that they gave it a good effort and chalk it up as a loss. He's probably being eaten. RIP Ducky.
The Fisty book is probably being eaten along with him. RIP Fisty.
After debating what to do and where to go they, once again, pick a random direction and start walking. They soon come up to a lit hole in the wall. There's a nice smell of fresh cooking in the air. They look in and find a little halfling hanging out alone. He says he's a monk, but Dug is pretty sure he's just a weird homeless dude.
His name is Aysche. He says he knows his way around down here. Dug and Tumutch convince him to help them make their way out of his hell. He doesn't seem to have anything better to do, so he agrees.
They follow the halfling's lead as he, blinded by the darkness, feels his way along the wall. Tumutch, also blind in the dark, struggles to follow. Dug and Pankas, being able to see fine, walk casually behind them.
They emerge into a large cavern, the walls lined with 13 different tunnel entrances. In the middle is a giant ogre with the sniffles. They cautiously walk up to him. Tumutch offers a healing neck rub to help with the cold but it doesn't seem to understand the offer.
It slams it's club on the ground, trying to look intimidating. Dug, looking to one-up him, casts knock and slams his hammer on the ground, echoing a loud boom through the caves. The ogre looks impressed, and shouts "GIVE" motioning to Dug's hammer as a second Ogre emerged from one of the adjoined tunnels.
This ogre is smart and talks fluently, explaining that they have a healthy, little slave business down here and also have some good items to sell. As he continues explaining their gig, it starts to sound a lot like a trap. He obviously want's to make the tree of them slaves.
The party tries to dip out, but the ogre says they need to pay him something. They debate giving him Aysche, but decide against it, figuring he's probably their best bet in getting out of here.
Dug tells the Ogres they should probably just leave them alone. They disagree.
Dug repeats that no, really, they should leave. Once again they disagree.
Dug commands them both: "LEAVE". They agree and leave.
The party continues their plan to get out out the underdark. Aysche says he knows the way, and leads them into one of the adjoined tunnels, still feeling his way along the wall.
They wind down a tunnel and emerge into a room. There's a pool of water and some weird motor-boating frog creatures armed with spears... but no exit. It's a dead end.
Suddenly one of the frog things hurls a spear at the halfling feeling his way along the wall. But, somehow, he snatches it out the air without looking and launches it back at the frog.
A fight breaks out but the motorboating frogs are quickly dispatched. It seems like the homeless monk is pretty good at fighting.
Considering it's a dead end, they return to the main ogre room, and Aysche picks another tunnel. This time he's sure it's the one.
They head down the second tunnel... it's going down hill, deeper underground. Dug and Tumutch aren't convinced it's the right one.
It opens to a large cavern with a sandy beach and Aysche confidently wades out in the water. Dug and Tumutch follow. They wade far out into the shallow water, eventually emerging onto another beach.
They notice weird yellow blobs scattered on the sand as they begin to climb up onto a plateau and head into another tunnel. They arrive on an umberhulk caught in the yellow goo. It doesn't look like it's doing so well as the party makes a wide berth around him to continue their trek.
Further up the path they come to another umberhulk hold in the wall. Peering into it they hear the familiar rumbling but also hear a squeaky, straining voice calling for help. Ducky?!
The party runs into the hole and come up on an umberhulk crouched over something. Pankas tries to sneak up on it, unsuccessfully. A battle breaks out. The party lands a few good hits on it and it tries to retreat with its prize but is ultimately brought down. It was Ducky. Ducky is saved!
the end?
