IMRTP - GUI Controls

IMRTP module was integrated with CERR in release 3.1 beta 1. It can be accessed from CERR menubar. A typical workflow for stating dosimetry is as follows:

1> Create beams, either equispaced or defined using the controls located on the top left side of the GUI. Beam-parameters are populated initially with default values. Individual beams can be pulled with the mouse to new angles. Beam parameters can be changed by entering new values in the text or selection boxes. Beams are currently restricted to be co-planar (perpendicular to the head-foot axis). The cross-sectional size of the beamlets is arbitrary, but the resolution of the calculation grid is restricted to an integer multiple of the CT transverse voxel width.
2> After creating beams, select the structures for which dose calculation is desired. This is done by selecting structures from the selection list located on top right of the GUI. Target structures can be defined by placing a check-mark before the selected structurs. The iso-center and beamlets are calculated based on the union of these target structures.
3> After seklecting the structures, the next step is to define dose calculation algorithm and parameters. This is done by selection-boxes located on bottom left side of the GUI.
4> The dosimetry-statement can be re/named from 'IM Dosimetry Set' section.
5> Under 'File' section there are 5 options:
(i) 'Recompute and Add Dosimetry' - Recomputes beamlets based on newly defined beams and structures and stores them as new dosimetry under 'IM' structure.
(ii) 'Recompute and Overwrite Dosimetry' - Recomputes beamlets based on newly defined beams and structures and stores them into current dosimetry.
(iii) 'Copy/Add Dosimetry w/o calc.' - Creates new dosimetry for newly defined beams and structures, but does not calculate beamlets.
(iv) 'Overwrite Dosimetry w/o calc.' - Overwrites current dosimetry with newly defined beams and structures without calculating beamlets.
(v) 'Revert to original' - This undoes the definition of beams, structures and IM parameters and reverts to the dosimetry information stored under planC.
Push 'Go' button after selecting the desired operation.
Once the beamlets are computed, push the 'Show' button to display the computed dose in CERR.
Note that the computed data is not stored on disk yet. Use File --> Save option from CERR to save data to disk.

Here is more information about what happens when a beam or structure is deleted or modified:

  • Deleting beam automatically deletes its beamlets.
  • Editing beam results in emptying its beamlets.
  • Deleting structure: The beamlets are not deleted. User can manually delete beamlets corresponding to that structure for any beam.
  • Editing structure: The structure-edit is tracked via change in structUID. The index is displayed as N-A on IMRTP GUI. User, then, has to manually get rid of this structure from dose calculation.
