Local Gaming Shop Basement - cavesandcreatures/the-goblins-of-whismywood GitHub Wiki

  • Herein lies the skeletons of nerds from bygone days, still spending their time creating puzzles and games for trespassers to play.
  • They're all previous owners of the store, but don't talk much

Motivation

  • Curiosity might be the primary motivator for the players to explore this room, but also they should have reason to talk to the LGS Owner
  • The LGS kids playing CnC might be able to persuade the players to find the owner, suspecting that he's in the basement, but they're not allowed to go down there

Room 1

  • "The players walk down the stairs from the LGS and enter a dark, stone room, lit only by the light from the open door. Empty storage boxes litter the corners and walls of the room. A few mice scurry about, but otherwise the room is unremarkable."

  • There is a tapestry against one of the walls, concealing a passage down into the Room 2

  • The mice can help lead the players to discover the passage when they scurry behind the tapestry

  • Players might feel a cold breeze coming from behind it if they are having trouble detecting the door

Room 2

  • "Four torches light the room, two on each of the left and right walls. The far wall of the room contains an alter covered in thick, alabaster wax. Three candle wicks peek out from the top of the melted, waxy foothills that cover the length of the table. In the center of room is a large, conical structure, whose purpose is not obvious."

  • The players will most like debate whether they should light the candles or not

  • A preception check reveals it would appear as though these candles have been lit many times before. Also indicated by the amount of melted wax on the table

  • When lit, the candles go out after a few moments, or at least long enough to light them all at once.

  • Lighting the candles all at once does nothing

  • One of the torches is a secret lever, detectable from a preception check to see that the switch is slightly different than the others
  • Pulling the torch, or attempting to take the torch out of the wall will activate the lever, releasing three skeletons from the ceiling who land on the conic structure
  • As they assemble, the players get a chance to react
  • Once assembled, the skeletons will attack
  • Beating them shouldn't be too tough, and once the last skeleton is destroyed, its head should pop off and land on a torch, revealing that there is a cryptic symbol carved into the back of its head, and now projecting onto the floor
  • Show the players one of the D20 Puzzle Symbols.

  • The Skeletons have constructed a contraption that rolls a giant, adamantine D20
  • The players, when presented with the die, can work together to hoist it up, and then let it fall
  • An oversized D20 can be used on the table to show this. Once the die stops rolling, the number it lands on activates a door or a trap.

Room 3

  • Boss room! The LGS Owner is chilling in here, attempting to refurbish various toys, collectibles, and games using his piece of the timepiece
  • The room has a bedroom and eating area, and is packed full of LGS paraphernalia along all the walls
  • The players can interact with the owner and fight him for his timepiece
