When a character casts a Spell (or uses some Elixirs), they must draw in large amounts of power in order to fuel the magical effects, this power builds up over successive uses of these Abilities, resonating along magical frequencies. Each of these Abilities have a different Arcane Resonance value that indicates how much residual magic will continue to resonate within the body of the user.

Any kind of ongoing magical effect on a character, such as those caused by certain Spells, Elixirs, and Enchanted Items, will generate a baseline amount of Arcane Resonance for as long as they are active and will only begin to dissipate once they have worn off.

If a Spell caster gets themselves into a bad situation, and casts many powerful Spells in an effort to solve their immediate problems, they may succeed in the short term, but at the risk of alerting many more enemies to their presence, and potentially needing to wait a very long time until they are no longer emanating such an obvious aura of magic.

If the Player's Arcane Resonance gets too high, it may attract the attention of Sol himself, if this occurs Sol will summon reinforcements directly to the Player's Location.

Detecting Arcane Resonance

A character is usually tries to keep its Arcane Resonance below the value of its Veil. Once a character's Arcane Resonance has overcome its Veil, the difference between the two values(Arcane Resonance - Veil) can be Detected by its enemies Sense Magic.

Examples

A character with 100 Arcane Resonance and 50 Veil produces 50 Arcane Resonance (100 - 50 = 50).

Another character with a Veil of 100 would need 150 Arcane Resonance before it would produce the same 50 Arcane Resonance (150 - 100 = 50).

Dissipating Arcane Resonance

Over time this buildup of magical power will naturally dissipate. Arcane Resonance is reduced at a rate of 5 per Segment, down to a minimum of the level currently being generated by any ongoing magical effects on the character. It becomes harder to dissipate Arcane Resonance once it is no longer successfully contained by a character's Veil, if a character has an Arcane Resonance value greater than its Veil it dissipates Arcane Resonance at half its normal rate.

A character's rate of dissipation of Arcane Resonance is increased by 1 per point of Intelligence.
