Proofs

When working with Bookalope, a Proof is the final structured version of your book after you’ve finished working through the Review page. You can access the Proof through a special link that you generate on the Convert page. This link is a public link which means you can share it with anybody and they’ll be able to access, read, and edit your book—without needing to log into Bookalope!

When you open the proof link in a browser you will see your book rendered on a single page, much like on the Review page. Unlike the Review page, however, the content has now been stripped of all its original styling and it’s been cleaned up and structured. Bookalope renders the structure information in addition to your book’s content:

Notice the beginnings of each chapter, and the kind of chapter that opens with a heading. Images are rendered in their correct places with alt text and captions right below. Paragraphs, depending on their paragraph label may be nested inside of a grey named outline to indicate their particular structure.

Every paragraph on the Proof page can be edited by simply clicking on it.

Note, however, that even though you can share the Proof link with any number of people, only one person is able to edit the Proof. If you open the link while somebody else is editing it, Bookalope will show the following banner at the top of the page:

Click the Continue editing button to take over editing, and to withdraw editing focus from whoever is currently working on this proof. Alternatively, click the Read only button to open this proof in read-only mode.

When you’re done, click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. This will commit all edits to this proof to the final document and it will also invalidate the public link. And use of the public proof link after the proof was submitted will result in an error:
