Select Outer Edges node icon   Select Outer Edges (node)

The perimeter of the input: every edge with only one neighbor (interior/shared edges have two).

A rectangle split into four cells, each filled pale region orange with the shared interior edges in region orange; the outer perimeter edges, which are what the node hands back, are curve green.

Inputs

  • Geometry (any): the tiled input to find the perimeter of.

Outputs

  • Edges (curve): the boundary edges, each with only one neighbor.

What it is for

Finds the outside of a shape or tile. An edge shared between two neighbors has a partner; an edge on the perimeter does not, and those are the ones this picks out.

It comes before tiling, not after. Select a tile's outer edges, mark them as seams, then tile it however you like: where two copies meet, seam lands on seam, and Weld can dissolve the doubled line. Mark the edges first and the boundaries disappear cleanly once the copies are in place.
