Francis J Hickering was an author. He wrote a book called "Communion Rites of Victorian Death Cults" in 1912. It concerns spiritualism and the rituals for communing with powerful spirits and other vaguely defined beings. The book has been debunked as rubbish.

When Douglas Henslowe spoke to the investigators and told them to retrieve his notebook, he told them to go to his estate and "ask Frank Hickering".
