Cables
Cables are the primary way to transfer signals from one block to another. Switches are one example that can power a wire.
Placing
Cables, when placed, will automatically connect to other adjacent cables as long as they're the same color. To make a continuous connection between two points, all cables in the designated path have to be the same color. For example, red cables and blue cables do not connect. Cables will also automatically connect to other blocks that support sending or receiving power.
Switches and Electric Lamps are two examples of blocks that connect with cables. For the lamp to turn on, at least one cable connecting to it must be powered. The cable can be powered by the switch, for example.
Connecting Different Colors
To connect two different colors of cable, an interstitial Raw Cable can be placed. The raw cable will connect with all blocks that support a cable connection in addition to every other cable. For example, to connect the aforementioned blue and red cables, a raw cable can be placed between. The raw cable will act as a bridge between the two separate sections.
Metal Cables
Metal cables act analogously to colored cables. Metal cables do not connect with other types of metal cables, but do connect with every type of colored cable. Currently, there is a metal cable for each type of ingot (copper, gold, iron, and aluminum).
See Crafting Cables on how to craft metal cables.
