The Rifleman unit is the bread and butter unit of infantry-based armies. It can be produced at a Barracks tile for a cost of 5. Its maximum size is 3, its movement speed is only 2, making it less effective at rushing enemies. and it has a vision radius of 4. Each figure in a Rifleman unit has 2 hitpoints and fires 1 shot that deals 1 damage.

The Rifleman unit's main strength lies in its ability to capture tiles.

Move

The Rifleman unit moves and attacks as usual.

Focus

The Rifleman unit has the Focus ability.

Capture

The Rifleman unit can Capture enemy tiles.

Trenches

In order to improve their survivability, the Rifleman unit can dig trenches, shaping a Grass, Dirt, Forest, Soil or Crops tile into a Trenches tile. This also removes any Frostbite present on the tile.

Non-mechanical ground units standing on a Trenches tile become entrenched. If a unit is attacked while it is entrenched, the Trenches tile provides 3 miss chances, absorbing up to three shots. Note that being entrenched does not offer any protection during indiscriminate damage steps such as those caused by bombardments or Gas. If a unit moves out of a Trenches tile, it is no longer entrenched and therefore the Trenches tile does not offer any protection during an attack of opportunity. The unit stops being entrenched when it moves out of the Trenches tile.

Non-mechanical ground units that move onto an unoccupied Trenches tile must stop moving to become entrenched.
