If you manage to obtain some Stained Bones either from pillaging a Beanstalk or from a desert pyramid's loot chest, you can make yourself one of these crude but very effective clubs. These brute force bashing babies can usually wipe out most standard hostiles, including creepers and armored skeletons, in one or two hits. As a bonus, as you bludgeon the hapless target, rather than blood, the victim often spews experience orbs.
As you use a cudgel and achieve more deadly success with it, it becomes "seasoned". A well seasoned cudgel will begin to glimmer like an enchanted weapon, and when it finally breaks, it will shatter into 2 or 3 sharpened Seasoned Cudgel Shards which you need to collect to create another pinkly weapon: the pinkly Hack Sword.
When you finally produce your first cudgel shards you will have achieved the coveted Club Membership advancement!
