PnK: Dyes

PinklySheep provides a small subset of pure Dye Powders for your use. Why? Several of the standard Minecraft dye materials are dual-purpose; for instance, bonemeal acts as white dye, while cocoa beans act as brown dye. This dual-use prevents certain recipes from being possible: for example you cannot combine red and green dye to create brown dye because you'll be creating cocoa beans also. Another issue with dual-use is that it limits the source of dyes in standard Minecraft; for instance you cannot really obtain black or blue dyes except from squid (as black dye is the same as ink sacs) and lapis lazuli ore (as blue is the same as lapis gems).

Recipes

Crafting our dye powders requires some Bleaching Powder. You can create all of the basic dye powders by combining one bleaching powder with the standard Minecraft dye. It is usually a 1-to-3 or 1-to-4 conversion but more precious dye materials will yield even better results; for instance, the lapis recipe produces 8 blue dye powders from each gem making it well worth the effort to collect some bleaching crystals from the Nether if you need lots of blue dye.

Alternatively, there are some additional ways to obtain some of the dye powders both from new sources and by combining our dye powders with existing dye items.

Pink Special!

Pink dye is an important material for this mod, so there is a specific recipe that lets you craft 8 pink dye powders from a single red dye item (any) and one bleaching powder. The resulting dye powder is useable as regular pink dye, but it's also a unique item we use for one or two mod-specific recipes.

Never run out of pretty pink again!

Main Uses

Once you have the basic dye powder, you can use it in any recipe that uses the Forge dyeXXX dict keys in its definition. Note that the recipe must use the dye material not the alternate use material; for instance a recipe must ask for any brown dye not a cocoa bean specifically.

-or- -or-

You can use the dye powders to dye Minecraft sheep colors or to change your tamed wolf's collar color. Just right-click on the animal as you would with a regular dye item.

Incompatibilities

If a recipe uses the Forge dyeXXX items in its definition, it will be able to use our dye powders with no issues. However, some standard Minecraft recipes expect only the Minecraft dye items. For example, the shulker box dying recipe is a custom recipe that (for now) does not work with Forge's dye ids.
