PnK Beanstalk LostBeans - Wabbit0101/mods_hoardercraft GitHub Wiki

You need a Lost Bean to grow a Beanstalk Sapling. There are several ways to obtain your first Lost Beans. If you're playing on a server or LAN, and another player has already grown a beanstalk, the easiest method is to trade with that player for one bean. If trading isn't possible, you can try to obtain lost beans by locating and raiding a few unopened stronghold library chests. You can also try your hand at stunted beanstalk sapling farming for lost beans. Farming for lost beans is arguably the most tedious method, but it's also reliably consistent and with some patience, you'll get yourself a few beans. Finally, you can try trading with nitwit villagers; sometimes they'll trade you a lost bean for a few cookies.

Stronghold Library Chests (Exploring)

If you have a new world or can generate new areas of an old world, one way to find Lost Beans is to find and raid stronghold library chests. Even for existing worlds, if you've not yet found a stronghold's library, a newly discovered chest can still produce a lost bean as its contents are not generated until a player actually opens or breaks the chest.

Lost Beans In StrongHold Library Chest Library loot!

Your chance of finding a lost bean is similar to that of finding a compass or a map (~11% for a vanilla world, so for a modded one it can be lower depending on how many modded items can be found in the chest). If you have a way to generate other structures that use the standard stronghold library loot table, the more chances you have of finding a lost bean this way.

Stunted Beanstalk Saplings (Farming)

If stronghold adventures aren't your cup of tea, you can try growing a Stunted Beanstalk Sapling with Rainbow Seeds, Blessed Earth, a bit of Fortune III, and a lot of patience. Once you have the sapling, you will be able to get a Lost Bean as a drop from it.

A Stunted Beanstalk Sapling is what you get when a Beanstalk Sapling tries to grow on Blessed Earth. Beanstalks are inherently "hostile entities", so if a rainbow seed tries to generate a beanstalk sapling on blessed earth, the earth zaps the sapling and it becomes stunted (it will never grow into a beanstalk of any kind, poor thing). However, by following the procedure outlined below, you can turn this sapling's misfortune into gold literally:

  1. Obtain an item with at least a Fortune III enchantment; you MUST have this!
  2. Craft or trade for a Rainbow Seed; obtain several seeds if you can.
  3. Farm some aged Blessed Earth; one block, at least age 1, is required.
  4. Center the blessed earth in a 5x5 dirt or grass area (read Growing a Beanstalk).
  5. Plant the rainbow seed on the blessed earth block. By default you have a 6%-12% chance of getting a Stunted Sapling. If you fail (the seed produced something other than a beanstalk sapling), remove whatever plants have sprouted and try planting another rainbow seed.
  6. Once you've grown a stunted sapling, you MUST break it with the Fortune III item to get the Lost Bean. If you do not use a fortune enchanted item, the sapling simply disintegrates and drops nothing!
    • If you use an X-enchanted fortune item to break the sapling, you have a 50% chance of getting two beans from a single sapling.
    • If you can trade for some Beanstalk Mulch, use that to fertilize the sapling instead of breaking it, and you have at least a 70% chance to get a lost bean drop without destroying the sapling! Apply the mulch after you've given yourself some extra luck (eat a lucky Rainbow Slice or drink a Goood JuJu potion) and the success rate goes up to over 90%!

Lucky Nitwits (Villager Breeding)

So you're in single-player (no trading for you), you hate adventuring (no stronghold loot for you), and you hate farming (no stunted saplings for you), what else can you do to find a Lost Bean? In a nutshell, you can find yourself a village nitwit, abduct him with the help of a witch, and hope he's the lucky kind of nitwit who's traded his village's livestock for Lost Beans in a past life.

There is one big 'gotcha' with this technique: it requires that you have some mechanism for getting at the nitwit's inventory. If you have the SmartHoppers mod installed, you can do this with a Villager Swap Pouch. In general, you follow these steps:

  1. Craft a Witch's Stork Apple (craft several if you can).
  2. Find or breed a nitwit villager.
  3. Use the stork apple to capture the nitwit to a Stork Egg.
  4. Get your player's luck value above zero; you MUST do this!
  5. Regenerate the nitwit from the Stork Egg and check his inventory.

Inventory Swap Pouch (from SmartHoppers)

Nitwit Bribe Inventory Use cookies to swap with your nitwit --

Nitwit Nonsense Most often you end up with a nitwit's junk;

Nitwit Treasure! but once in a while...you get lucky loot!

Note that you can do this swap once per nitwit as the inventory is filled at the nitwit's initial regeneration from the Stork Egg; entity capture tools from other mods will not work at all. If you have more than one Stork Apple, you can repeat the capture-release sequence (steps 3-5) as many times as you have apples. Do not try the swap in a village where your reputation has been damaged (for instance from killing villagers directly); it will not work.
