The Backstory/Prologue

In the near future, “shadow crawlers” roam the night and darkness, where their insatiable desire for death ends civilization as we know it. They thrive in the darkness, and become stronger at night - still roaming the day but slower and weaker. They’re demons of darkness working under the power within the shadows. They appeared only after light began to disappear - street lights flickered off, houses left in darkness - forcing many to flee their homes towards the remaining light. The light is rapidly dwindling and the few humans who survive are trapped in cities that are lit up. As time passes, small towns and rural cities fall into darkness and are abandoned from a lack of resources to keep the lights lit. People must find a way to safety or risk death. Since the “dawn of the darkness”, people have seen a powerful light glowing in the horizon - deemed the “safe haven”. Some people take a chance and leave towards the safe haven, in hopes of a new crawler-free life. These runners are called ‘fireflies’.

The Gameplay

The player is a survivor; Currently living in an urban town that’s beginning to fall due to a lack of resources. The shadow-crawlers are edging closer to the city, bringing the darkness. They take the chance and begin their journey towards the safe haven, taking shelter at the safe houses scattered across the lands built by previous fireflies. They must gather food and materials to survive the journey. In the safe houses, they have the chance to rest in a safe place, whilst also upgrade tools. However, the shadow crawlers and the darkness still pose a threat to their chances of reaching what they hope to be the safe haven.

The Climax

If the player successfully progresses through the levels, they approach the shore line, where they can see the safe haven glowing on the horizon of the sea. However, as they head towards the docks, they are met with the darkness. The darkness is the overlord of the shadow crawlers which orders them to take the light away and assist in engulfing the world into darkness and strengthen its power. The player must defeat this being to be able to make it to the boat and sail to safety.

The Epilogue

After they defeat the darkness, the player reaches the docks where there’s a sole sail boat. Hoping they’re finally safe to travel, they get into the boat and sail towards the glowing safe haven. However, a small shadow is seen moving around the boat just as the screen turns to black. The end
