Description
Small enemy is intended to be a beginner enemy that the player is able to easily defeat at the start of the game. It's appearance will be designed to appear hostile but approachable for the player encountering the enemy for the first time.
Taking inspiration from the tough large enemy which has the most distinct design out of the enemies and the existence of a spawner for the small enemy type, a creature in a shape of slug was decided.
Inspired by starcraft's Zerg race which are biological aliens which are controlled by a hive mind, and the majority of their population hatches from an egg and evolves/grows into a stronger creature.
Appearance
It's appearance is a small green slug similar in size to the player. It crawls around until it detects the player and crawls towards the player. The small enemy is destroyed from any one attack by the player and displays the dead sprite to show its corpse.
This is an early prototype of the injured small enemy. During the sprint it was decided that all attacks will one shot kill the small enemy so this asset was not developed further.
It as decided that the enemies blood will be purple and therefore this is the final small enemy corpse design:
A feature later implemented was that the enemy needs to glow in the dark so that the player can see them in the dark.
The sprite is layered on top ignoring the lighting component so it appears to be glowing.
