TEN: Doppelganger setup - Tomb-Raider-Level-Editor/Tutorials GitHub Wiki

Ever wanted that doppelganger from TR1 to work in your levels? Well say no more! Doppelganger has been fixed for TEN 1.1.0.

This tutorial shall explain how to set up the doppelganger, as well as the new TEN features such as: being able to use more than 1 doppelganger in your levels.

Room and doppelganger setup

To start off, in your wad you should have:

  • Doppelganger object (Slot 222)
  • Doppeganger_origin (Slot 1085) which is a nullmesh object.

to get the doppelganger object, you should download it from here: https://tombengine.com/docs/resource-downloads/ or as a direct link to download: https://github.com/TombEngine/Resources/raw/main/Wad2%20Objects/Enemies/tr1_doppleganger.wad2

Now once you have those objects you can go on TE and start building the rooms.

Note: for doppelganger to work, you need to mirror rooms in X and Z axis as shown in the picture: (presented as a basic room as with complex geometry it can be difficult)

this room is 5x5 size with opposite ends being size of 2x3 and 3-click raised blocks in the 5x5 room opposite to each other.

The Doppleganger_origin needs to go exactly in the middle of the room, if it is not, the doppelganger itself will not be mirrored and unexpected behaviours will happen.

Once you have your room and origin done, you can put Lara and doppelganger in the opposite rooms as shown in the picture above. Then trigger her via 1-5 bits or normal activate trigger.

The results should be like in this video: https://streamable.com/vrec02

Note: Doppelganger will not mimic some of Lara's animations such as gun holster/unholstering for now due to certain limits.

Multiple doppelganger setup

In TEN, you can now have multiple doppelgangers in one level (where as in Tomb Raider 1, it was limited to 1 doppelganger for the whole level)

In order to have multiple doppelgangers, you need to do the same room, ganger origin, and ganger itself setup with the difference of having to separate with OCBs.

I created another room which is the same size as the last room (5x5) but with a tunnel (3x1), some monkeyswings, and triggered via floor trigger.
