Publishing

Getting rendered slices from the output folder onto the platform. The platform here is Webtoon; other platforms differ.

The size budget is the hard part

This is the step that actually costs time, and it is worth setting expectations.

Cap In practice
~2 MB per slice Rarely a problem with JPEG
~20 MB per chapter The real constraint

Figures last checked: July 2026.

A chapter that runs to eighty-odd slices can sit above the per-chapter budget even when no individual file is close to its own cap. Getting under it usually means rendering, checking the folder size, lowering JPEG quality, and rendering again โ€” possibly more than once.

Platemaker does not measure output size, so this loop is manual. See Output profiles.

Specifications change. Check the platform's own creator documentation rather than trusting this table, and note when you last verified it.

Uploading

Slices are named output_001, output_002 and so on precisely so that sorting by filename gives the reading order โ€” see Rendering.

Upload appears to be asynchronous, so smaller files can finish first and land out of order. This is not a problem: the upload form lets you rearrange pages afterwards. Check the order before publishing rather than assuming it followed the filenames.

Upload behaviour last checked: before July 2026 โ€” treat the ordering detail as unconfirmed.

Cover and thumbnail

Two different things, handled differently.

  • The cover page is just artwork, so it goes through Platemaker like any other page โ€” add it as the first input of the chapter and it is sliced along with everything else.
  • The thumbnail is not part of the chapter and Platemaker has no part in it. Make it separately; any image editor is enough.

Fixing a published chapter

Change the page, re-import or let Platemaker detect the change, and render again โ€” only the slices that page feeds into are regenerated, so a one-page fix does not mean rebuilding the chapter.

Then re-upload the affected slices.
