Install/access the app

  1. The location of where app can be downloaded, is TBD by Implementor

Login

Overview:

  • It is recommended that you sign into the app, to get the most of the app and access all the relevant features. However, you can still make an Emergency call when logged out - refer to Make an Emergency call when not logged in
  • Note:
    • Sign in process may differ depending on the Identify Provider selected by Implementor. THe below process is based on using the default Identity Provider (AuthO)

Step(s):

  1. Open the app

  2. Click on the "Sign In with Identity Provider"

  3. Enter your email address and password

  4. If you provided the correct details, you will be automatically logged into the app as Village Resident.

Register

Overview:

  • This information will be shared with Security Responders when making a distress.
  • Note:
    • Your name can't be updated via the app, since information is sent by Identity provider. Contact your company administrator to get information updated.
    • You can select not to share your mobile number and room number when making an Emergency call - refer to Make an anonymous Emergency call section below.
    • Your name can't be updated via the app, since information is sent by Identity provider. Contact your company administrator to get information updated.
    • If you don't accept the "Terms and Conditions" and "Privacy Policy", then you won't be able to Register. However, you can still make an Emergency call - refer to Make an Emergency call when not logged in

Step(s):

  1. The first time you successfully log into the app, you will be asked to register

  2. Enter your information

  3. Accept the Terms & Conditions and Privay Policy and click "Register"

Updating your profile

Overview:

  • This information will be shared with Security Responders when making a distress.
  • Note:
    • You can select not to share your mobile number and room number when making an Emergency call - refer to Make an anonymous Emergency call section below.
    • Your name can't be updated via the app, since information is sent by Identity provider. Contact your company administrator to get information updated.

Step(s):

  1. Click on "Settings" icon at the bottom right of screen

  2. On the "Settings" page, click on "Profile"

  3. On the Profile page, update the necessary fields and click "Update Profile"

Make an Emergency call

Overview:

  • If you are in/witness to an emergency or distress situation, then you can call the Security Responders based your location. To make a call, you either need to have a phone signal and/or have enabled WiFi calling on your phone.
  • You may be asked to share your location before you make a call - refer to Sharing GPS location

You have 3 different options when making a distress call

  1. Logged into app - default
    • An emergency call will be made to Security Responders based on your location
    • You personal information will be shared (i.e. your name, contact number and room number will be shared)
    • If you opted into sharing your GPS location, then that will be shared
    • A record of the call will be created, i.e. when you view list of past incidents, then the call will appear in list
  2. Logged into, but anonymous call
    • An emergency call will be made to Security Responders based on your location
    • No personal information will be share (i.e. your name, contact number and room number will not be shared)
    • If you opted into sharing your GPS location, then that will still be shared
  3. Logged out of app
    • An emergency call will be made to Security Responders based on your location
    • No personal information will be share (i.e. your name, contact number and room number will not be shared)
    • Your GPS location will not be shared
    • No record of the call will be created, i.e. when you view list of past incidents, then the call won't appear in list

1. To do make an Emergency call when logged into app

Overview:

  • To make a call, you either need to have a phone signal and/or have enabled WiFi calling on your phone.
  • If you are not logged in, you can either
    • Log in and then follow the steps below OR
    • Follow the steps in "3. Make a call when not logged in" section
  • Refer to Overview section in Make an Emergency call for more information

Step(s):

  1. If you don't see the red "Make Emergency Call" button, then you first need to click on "Emergency" icon on the bottom left of your app

  2. Click on the red "Make Emergency Call" call button

  3. While you distress call is active (i.e. it has not be closed or cancelled), then red "Make Emergency Call" call button will be deactivated and the text on red button will say "Emergency Call Active"

2. Make an anonymous Emergency call

Overview:

  • To make a call, you either need to have a phone signal and/or have enabled WiFi calling on your phone.
  • If you are not logged in, you can either
    • Log in and then follow the steps below OR
    • Follow the steps in "3. Make a call when not logged in" section
  • Refer to Overview section in Make an Emergency call for more information

Step(s):

  1. If you don't see the red "Make Emergency Call" button, then you first need to click on "Emergency" icon on the bottom left of your app

  2. "Anonymize my name and mobile" - move slider to make call Anonymous or not:

    1. Make it anonymous - move the slider to the right
    2. Make it NOT anonymous - move the slider to the left
  3. Click on the red "Make Emergency Call" call button

  4. While you distress call is active (i.e. it has not be closed or cancelled), then red "Make Emergency Call" call button will be deactivated and the text on red button will say "Emergency Call Active"

3. Make an Emergency call when not logged in

Overview:

  • To make a call, you either need to have a phone signal and/or have enabled WiFi calling on your phone
  • Refer to Overview section in Make an Emergency call for more information

Step(s):

  1. Click on the red "Emergency Call" button

Cancel an Emergency call

If you made a call by mistake or no longer require assistance, then you can cancel a call. You will need to be logged into app in order to cancel the Emergency call. Note: Security Responders, can't cancel an Emergency call. They can will "Close" a call, when it is has been resolved or no longer required.

Step(s):

  1. If you don't see the orange "Cancel Emergency" button, then you first need to click on "Emergency" icon on the bottom left of your app

    • If you still don't see the orange "Cancel Emergency" button: If the red "Make Emergency Call" call button is active, then it means your last Emergency call is no longer active and it may have been cancelled/closed. Refer to "Viewing past incidents/duress call" below to check.

  2. Click on "Cancel Emergency" button

  3. Specify the reason for cancelling the Emergency call and then click "Yes, Cancel"

    • If you clicked "Cancel Emergency" button by accident, then select "No, Keep Active"

Viewing past incidents/duress call

Overview:

  • You can view all emergency calls you made in the past 30 days
  • The list will show you when a call was made, if it was anonymous and the status of the call.
  • Note: Emergency calls made when logged out, will not appear in this list - refer to Overview section in Make an Emergency call for more information

Step(s):

  1. Click on "Settings" icon at the bottom right of screen

  2. On the "Settings" page, click on "Past Incidents"

  3. A list of all emergency calls you made in the past 30 days will be displayed

  4. Click on

    • one of the calls, if you would like to view additional information about the call (incl. cancellation / closure notes)
    • the left arrow next to "Incident History if you want to go back to previous screen

  5. The Incident record is displayed

    • Click on the left arrow next to "Incident Details" if you want to go back list of past incidents

Viewing additional Company information

Overview:

  • Access additional resources/information from the company, the "Terms and Conditions" and/or "Privacy Policy"

Step(s):

  1. Click on the 3 dots at the top right hand corner in app

  2. A pop-up menu will be displayed

  3. Select the applicable item you want to see more information about

    • Note: this will open a new page in you default browser of your device

Sharing GPS location / Diagnostic data

Sharing GPS location

Overview:

  • You can opt in/out to share their GPS location when using the mobile app to make emergency calls
  • If user accepts to share your GPS location, it will be sent to Security Responder during an active Emergency event / call, but only when they are logged into the Duress app. If not logged in, their GPS location won't be sent. Tracking will cease once the Emergency call has been closed/cancelled.
  • Note: The below steps may differ depending on your mobile phone and operation system on it, since it is uses default out of the box functionality on your mobile phone

Step(s):

  1. Once you successfully logged into the app, you will asked if you would like to share your location. You will have 3 options
    1. Allow once or Ask every time
      • Your GPS location will only be shared for this given emergency call
      • Next time you make a emergency call, you will be prompted again if you want to share your location or not
    2. Allow while using the app
      • Your GPS location will only be shared for this given emergency call and also future calls (provided you are logged in)
      • You won't be prompted again
    3. Don't allow
      • Your GPS location won't be sent

**For more information on how to turn Location Service on or off, refer to your mobile phone provider, e.g.

Sharing of data for diagnostics

Overview:

  • You can opt in/out to send/share anonymous data to help with debugging and performance monitoring
  • If user accept to share data, if the Duress app encounters an error, anonymous or redacted error data will be sent for debugging and performance monitoring.

Step(s):

  1. Click on "Settings" icon at the bottom right of screen

  2. On the "Settings" page, click on "Diagnostics"

  3. "Select" to share your data anonymously to help improve diagnostics or "Unselect" if you don't want to share your data

Sign out of app

Overview:

  • If you logged out, you won't be able to access any past emergency call information or access additional company resources. However, you will still be able to make an Emergency call - refer to Make an Emergency call when not logged in

Step(s):

  1. Click on the 3 dots at the top right hand corner in app

  2. A pop-up menu will be displayed and in there, select "Sign Out"
