Playing SWTOR on Linux [WIP]
Setup
- use mate or cinnamon desktop environment
- install recommended GPU drivers. (This step is really important)
- install steam from software manager.
- setup proton the newer the version the better.
- turn on steam play in steam and set proton to match SWTOR compatibility settings.
Tips for troubleshooting
- Try different versions of proton until SWTOR runs right if it doesn't work right away.
- If SWTOR loading screen takes forever then alt tab out of SWTOR and close SWTOR . Edit client settings.ini in local steam files change fullscreen to false then save relaunch SWTOR.
Playing SWTOR on Mac (both x86 and M1/M2)
u/AgentRG on Reddit has open-sourced their script that installs and runs SWTOR (through a Wine-based wrapper) on Macs in an almost completely automated manner (requires installing a couple of command line tools, which are simple copy/paste/enter into a terminal window). Requires macOS 10.13 High Sierra or higher, and now is compatible with 64bit-only macOS versions such as Catalina or higher, and even M1/M2-based Macs, too!
