Gathering the character assets with the Slicer GUI tool - SWTOR-Slicers/WikiPedia GitHub Wiki

NEW AVAILABLE TOOL: the SWTOR Character Assembler Blender Addon:

Improving upon the features of the Slicers GUI and the .gr2 Importer Addon, we have now a new one: the SWTOR Character Assembler Blender Addon. It combines in a single button operation the character asset-locating function of Slicers GUI described in this page with the character importing explained in the following step, adding a few options of its own.

It is still recommended that you read these two pages to understand what this new Addon does under the hood.

Now that we have the unzipped folder containing the information about the character, we'll use the Slicers GUI tool to automatically locate the assets needed to assemble it.

So, we already had the Slicers GUI's Output Folder pointing to the folder containing the extraction's "resources" folder. What we do now is point the Data Folder field to the unzipped character folder exported by TORCommunity.com's Character Designer (or by TORCommunity.com's database of NPC's 3D viewer).

Then we press the Locate button and wait just a second or two (it's very fast!).

The Slicers GUI's log panel tells us that the job is finished.

How to check that it worked? Simple: the contents of the character's folder should have changed from a few KiloBytes to several MegaBytes.

Also, we can dive into the folders and see their contents, filled now with .gr2 meshes, .dds textures, and .mat xml files.

Next: Using Blender and the SWTOR importer add-on to auto-assemble the model.
