Introduction and Overview

OpcUaManager is a Qt 6 desktop tool for working with OPC UA servers. It is aimed at commissioning, testing, and diagnostics — for example watching variables exposed by a PLC (such as a CODESYS runtime), checking that an address space looks as expected, or standing up a small OPC UA server to test a client against.

What the program does

The application has two halves that share one window:

  • OPC UA Client. Connect to an OPC UA server, browse its address space, inspect node attributes, read and write variable values, subscribe to live updates, and plot selected variables as trends. See OPC UA Client.
  • OPC UA Server (Server Studio). Design an address space, configure an endpoint and security, run a local OPC UA server as a separate process, and simulate variable values. See OPC UA Server.

A project ties a session together. A client project (.uaproj) stores the connection and the monitored nodes; a server project (.uaserver) stores the designed address space and the server configuration. See Getting Started and Configuration.

Who it is for

  • Users — commissioning and test engineers who need to see and exercise an OPC UA server without writing code.
  • Developers — engineers extending the program itself; the Architecture and Project Structure chapters and the OpcUaManager API Reference explain the internals.

Key concepts

  • Address space, nodes, variables. An OPC UA server exposes a tree of nodes; variable nodes carry values you can read, write, or subscribe to.
  • Endpoint and security. A server is reached through an endpoint URL (opc.tcp://host:port) with a security policy and a user identity.
  • Subscriptions. Instead of polling, the client subscribes and the server pushes value changes.
