Roadmap - NatLibFi/Skosmos GitHub Wiki
Skosmos is developed using an agile process, which means that plans for future releases are not set in stone but instead updated as the user needs and requirements evolve. Since January 2020, main development is done in sprints. Each sprint has a set of goals and a backlog of issues that the sprint tries to resolve. If the sprint is successful, the result is released as a Skosmos release.
Skosmos development is a part of basic operation of the National Library of Finland, which ensures continuity for development and maintenance (see service description).
This page lists a number of high level goals. Actual development items are represented as GitHub issues and their development is planned and tracked through GitHub Project boards: the Skosmos 3.0 Backlog (for development of Skosmos 3) and the NatLibFi Skosmos Backlog (more general development, including bug fixes for Skosmos 2).
Roadmap for 2026
Please note that during 2026, we will focus on getting our own installation of Skosmos, Finto.fi, running on Skosmos 3.X. The work towards this goal can also benefit other users, of course, and we will continue to work for and with the wider Skosmos user community.
Sprint 1 (January 2026)
- We will start with the implementation of Skosmos 3 into Finto.fi
- Prepare the layout of Finto.fi
- Plan an accessibility audit of Finto.fi
- Start to re-implement plugins/widgets for Finto.fi
- continue development of Skosmos 3 features (e.g. search facilities)
- release Skosmos 3.1
Sprint 2 (March 2026)
- further work on Finto.fi layout and plugins
- accessibility improvements
- new features
- release Skosmos 3.2
Sprint 3 (April 2026)
- further work on Finto.fi layout and plugins
- release Skosmos 3.3
- possibly update Finto.fi to this version of Skosmos, if everything seems ready enough
Further sprints
We will continue with further sprints in 2026, to be scheduled.
