This is what this whole mod is about: the Dimensional Pocket!
With vanilla Minecraft you will most likely use it as a portable storage room. I'll admit that is not too much to do. But as soon as you install some other mods, that deal with RedstoneFlux energy, fluid transfer or item transfer, it can become your portable powerplant for example!
Crafting
This is how you craft a dimensional pocket. Don't worry, those expensive crystals will last you more than one pocket.
Capabilities
The Dimensional Pocket has the ability to transfer stuff in and out. With an otherwise vanilla installation of Minecraft, all you can do is transfer items, but with mods that support it, you can also transfer energy in the form of Redstone Flux, and fluids. Another thing that can connect through a Dimensional Pocket are Open Computers parts.
A quick note on item transfer: A Dimensional Pocket behaves like an inventory, and requires the item-receiving part of the connection to be an inventory (code wise) too. Which means that f.e. BuildCraft pipes only work with some quirky workarounds, like chests strategically placed on the inside wall of a Dimensional Pocket. EnderIO on the other hand has been working perfectly with Dimensional Pockets so far.
Setting it up
To select which sides of the Dimensional Pocket should let stuff pass through, you first select a Nether Crystal. While holding it, the Dimensional Pocket then will look like this:
The coloured corners are there to help you identify which side is which when you are connecting things to the pocket on the inside and from the outside.
When you use the Nether Crystal on one of the sides, that side will receive a pulsing green ring to indicate that it is now in transfer mode:
Connectors
On the inside of a Dimensional Pocket, only one block per wall is connected to the corresponding outside face of the Dimensional Pocket. This is the spot where you connect things to. You can identify the block by it's pulsating square texture:
When you Sneak-Use the Nether Crystal somewhere on an inside wall, the block that you clicked on will become the Connector.
