Task:

  • Create Category Options, Categories and Category Combinations in DHIS2.

Notes:

  • Once you have created a Category Combination, it will be available for use with all Data Elements. Therefore, it is a good idea to check if a Category Combination already exists to avoid creating duplicates

Instructions:

Step 1: Go to the 'Maintenance' app:

Step 2: Create the required Category Options

a. Click 'Category Option' at the top of the screen.

b. Make sure your desired Category Options do not already exist

c. If not, click the '+' icon at the bottom right corner

d. Enter the Name and Short Name (must be 50 characters or less) and 'Save'.

e. Select the Orgunit(s) you want the Category Option to connect to. By default all Category Options will be available for the entire DHIS2 instance.

f. Click 'Save' at the bottom of the screen at each step!

 

Step 3: Create the required Category(ies)

a. Click 'Category' on the left column or top banner.

b. Make sure your desired Category does not already exist

c. If not, click the '+' icon at the bottom right corner

d. Enter the Name

e. Double-click the desired Category Options to make them appear in the text box on the right. Alternatively, you can select multiple OrgUnits with 'Shift+click' or 'Ctrl+click'.

f. Click 'Save' at the bottom of the screen at each step!

  g. Create the Category Combination

  1. Click 'Category Combination' on the left column

  1. Make sure your desired Category does not already exist

  2. If not, click the blue '+' icon at the top right corner

  3. Enter the Name

  4. Double-click the desired Category(ies) to make them appear in the text box on the right. Alternatively, you can select multiple OrgUnits with 'Shift+click' or 'Ctrl+click'.

  5. Click 'Save' at the bottom of the screen at each step!
