Adding integration
For Steam overlays to be launched for games, they have to be added via the right-click menu. Select one or more games, right-click, go to "GlosSI Integration" and click "Add Integration". The games should now be added (unless they are Steam games, since most Steam games natively support the Steam overlay). If Steam is already running, it must be restarted for the changes to take effect. Games are added irrespective of their installation status.
Restarting Steam
Simply closing the Steam window is not enough to restart Steam. Instead, there are two simple ways to completely exit Steam:
- In top-left corner of the Steam application, press "Steam" and then "Exit".
- Right-click the Steam icon in the system tray, and press "Exit".
Adding integration to Steam games
Steam games are usually ignored when adding the integration, as they should already use the Steam overlay (and Steam input). In case you have Steam games that do not support the Steam overlay, they can still be added. To do so, make sure to only select the relevant Steam games when clicking on "Add Integration".
Removing integration
To remove the Steam overlay for games, click on "Remove Integration" instead of "Add Integration". This will remove the game's Steam shortcut and GlosSI configuration.
Tags
The extension currently uses two tags, "[GI] Integrated" and "[GI] Ignored". There is generally no reason to touch the "[GI] Integrated", unless you are adding/removing Steam shortcuts manually. The "[GI] Ignored" can be freely removed and added to games. A game with the "[GI] Ignored" will be treated as non-existent by the extension (i.e. no adding/removing of integration and no launching of Steam shortcuts).
Top panel button
Press the button to toggle whether Steam shortcuts should be launched when starting games. The button can also be used while in-game!
Starting & closing games
Depending on your settings, when launching a game that has been added (i.e. has the "[GI] Integrated" tag) any currently running GlosSI Steam shortcuts will be closed and the overlay specific to the game will be opened (or the default overlay, if enabled and if no game specific overlay has been set for the game). When closing the game, the overlay will be closed, and if Playnite is running in Fullscreen mode with a Playnite Steam Overlay configured, that overlay will be launched.
From Steam
The three different types of overlays behave differently when launched from Steam:
- Every time a game is added via "Add integration", a corresponding Steam shortcut will be created. This shortcut can be launched with Steam, in which case the game will be launched through Playnite.
- The default overlay is a single Steam shortcut, which when launched starts nothing: only the GlosSITarget overlay will be started. This can be useful if you want to use Steam input for some game/application not launched through Playnite or Steam.
- Launching the Playnite overlay (i.e., the optional overlay used for Playnite fullscreen mode), launches Playnite. If launched from Steam Big Picture mode, Playnite will start in fullscreen mode. If you close the Playnite overlay (by e.g. pressing the guide button to show the overlay and pressing exit game), you will return to Steam Big Picture mode. This is a simple way to switch between your Steam BPM and Playnite library with a controller.
If you do not want some shortcuts to appear in your Steam library, you can simply hide it by selecting the shortcuts in your Steam library (hold shift or ctrl to select multiple), right-click ⟶ Manage ⟶ Hide.
