Creating a new project - LAMP-Platform/LAMP GitHub Wiki
Creating a new project
Creating a project folder is essential for all LAMP projects. It will house all the important data extracted from the Metroid 2 ROM. LAMP compiles all modifications from the project files into a new ROM, thus only a single copy of the original Metroid 2 ROM is needed.
First Launch
Upon launching LAMP, you will see the following window:
For first-time users, there will be no projects under the Recent
or Pinned
tabs. If you have previous projects, they will appear here. You can pin projects to the Pinned
tab for easy access.
Click Create a new Project
to start a new project. First-time users will receive this warning:
Selecting the ROM
After acknowledging the warning, LAMP will direct you to the Program Settings, where you can select the Metroid 2: Return of Samus ROM. This window is also accessible via Open Program Settings
on the Recent files screen or Options -> Program Settings
if a project is already loaded.
For additional details on Program and Project Settings, see Settings.
It is recommended to select a path to an unmodified ROM. To base a project on a ROM hack, start with a vanilla ROM and configure project-specific ROM settings. Verify the ROM’s checksum:
SHA1: 74A2FAD86B9A4C013149B1E214BC4600EFB1066D
to ensure it is unmodified.
The project folder
Once the ROM is selected, click Create a new Project
again. You will then choose a project name and location. IMPORTANT: The chosen directory becomes the root of your project, which includes several subfolders and a project file. Creating a project in the directory of an existing project will overwrite its data!
After setting the name and location, your folder structure will appear as follows:
My First Project | User created
|_ Custom | LAMP Created
|_ Data | LAMP Created
|_ ProjectName.m2 | LAMP Created
The project is now set up. LAMP will automatically load the new project, and the window will display various selections and views.
Opening a Project
To open an existing project, select Open an existing Project file
and choose the .m2 file. You can also drag and drop the .m2 file into the main window. To open a different project while one is loaded, go to File -> Open Project
.
You may encounter this warning when opening a project:
Refer to Selecting the ROM for guidance on this warning.
Saving a Project
To save your project, select File > Save Project
. LAMP saves all current changes to the directory from which the project is loaded.
