Before we could start need finding, we needed to do some benchmarking. We researched what products already existed in the music/car industries (from Spotify, to Pop Wow, to Tune Tug), as well as what products have not yet been explored. See our initial benchmarking.

After getting a sense of our industry, it was time do our own need finding. We chose to approach this with this survey. In this survey, we were looking insights on our users' demographics, music/driving habits, and interests in different potential features for our app.

Our survey was quite successful. We got 164 responses and a range of demographics. We started to see trends in people's habits with regards to listening to music while driving, and we saw that certain features (such as ease of use, simplicity, and playing songs from multiple devices) were much more favored than others (such as up/down voting, gamification, mood-based playlists, and sharing on social media).
