Milestone 1 Hypervisor Setup - ItsMmmike/SYS-350 GitHub Wiki
Overview
In this Milestone we focus on the installation and basic networking setup of an ESXi Server. For our class environment we are using VMware ESXi v8.0.0 in order to learn how to create and manage a hypervisor server environment. VMware ESXi Server is a "Type 1 Hypervisor", which is a type of virtualization server which runs on a bare metal system. This is useful as it allows businesses and organizations to run large numbers of VMs and virtual environments in a more centralized location.

Reflection:
Overall, I found this milestone to be fairly straightforward. I though it was interesting learning how to troubleshoot on physical hardware as I've typically worked in virtually simulated environments in previous classes. One thing that I had difficulty with was figuring out how to acquire licensing for my VMware ESXi and vSpehre Servers as well as finding where to download their respective ISO installers on Broadcom's website.
Note: A useful guide for finding and downloading ESXi ISOs can be found --> Here
Deliverables
Deliverable 1 - Screenshot showing a successful login on my ESXi host server (192.168.3.213) as the root user.
Deliverable 2 - Screenshot showing my new ESXi Datastore (“datastore1-super13”) and File Directory containing 2 ISO images for “pfsense-CE-2.7.0” and “xubuntu-22.04.1”.
Note: Although this deliverable originally specified the ISO images to be placed onto a second, newly created ESXi datastore. Only one datastore was used here since my server system had a single single storage device installed at the time of this milestone.
Deliverable 3 - Screenshot of my new “350-Internal” Virtual Switch and associated Port Group.
Deliverable 4 - Screenshot from your mgmt1 box showing your 10.0.17.0/24 address as well as your successful ping to an internet host
