SuperMicro Remote Management via IPMI (iKVM/HTML5)

Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is a type of Out-Of-Band (OOB) management technology that is typically used to remotely manage Servers within a datacenter environment.

  • In this class, our SuperMicro Servers come installed with an RJ45 IPMI Port. This allows us to remotely install our ESXi Servers over the local network.

  • For this Milestone, I used the Server's iKVM/HTML5 Virtual Console Interface to help install ESXi onto the system. To access the Virtual Interface: Login to the SuperMicro Server's IPMI > Select Remote Control > Select iKVM/HTML5 > Lastly, open a new instance of the Virtual Web Interface.

Additional Useful Features of the IPMI Web Interface include:

  • Virtual Display + Keyboard
  • Ability to remotely shutdown/restart the server (useful for loading boot ISOs)
